Concrete Foundation

The notorious Jean Avenue sinkhole swallowed up the intersection of Jean Avenue and Gerhard street in 2017. Ongoing court cases put this project under the radar as a high priority. The project was fast tracked and rehabilitation began in January 2018. The method used on this project was compaction grouting as this was the only method suitable to avoid disturbance of any existing services, namely: stormwater, bulk supply, fibre, telecoms, high-voltage electricity.

A downstage grout methodology was applied, resulting in the team drilling almost 10km in total. Each hole was grouted in stages and pressure was applied to ensure each level was adequately compacted and free of any voids. The project was awarded an extension and sinkhole rehabilitation was completed in August 2018.
